The final event of the Athens Olympics was marred yesterday when a spectator leapt from the crowd lining the marathon route and attacked the race leader six kilometres from the end.
The intruder was named as Cornelius “Neil” Horan, a former Irish priest who broke through security at Silverstone during the 2003 British Grand Prix. Last night he ran on to the road and grabbed hold of Brazil’s Vanderlei Lima, forcing him into the crowd.
Horan was dressed in a kilt and was wearing a beret. On his shirt was scrawled “The Grand Prix Priest. Israel Fulfilment of Prophecy Says The Bible. The Second Coming is Near.” He also had a Star of David attached to his kilt.
